Mission NC2 Nuclear Decay Processes

Mission NC2 requires that students understand the concept of nuclear decay and be able to recognize the four main decay processes (alpha, beta, gamma, and positron) based on their nuclear equation and affect upon the nucleus. The mission consists of 36 questions organized into 9 Question Groups.

Learning Outcomes

  • The student should be able to describe radioactive decay and identify the various types of decay.
  • The student should be able to describe the effect that common decay processes (alpha decay, beta decay, positron emission, gamma decay) have upon the atomic number and mass number of a nuclide.
