Mission NC5 Nuclear Stability

Mission NC5 pertains to patterns associated with the stability of nuclei and the manner in which various decay processes lead to stability. Students should be prepared to reason scientifically from given information towards appropriate conclusions. The mission consists of 28 questions organized into 7 Question Groups.

Learning Outcomes

  • The student should be able to describe general patterns of stability for nuclei of various elements.
  • The student should be able to use a nuclide chart to predict the effect of various decay types on the stability of a nucleus
