Physics Classroom is making strides to make our site accessible to everyone. Our site contains 6 navigation areas. The Primary, Secondary, and Page Level navigations have a screen reader version of their nav structure that allows using the left and right keys to navigate sibling navigation items, and up or down keys to navigate parent or child navigation items. The others can be navigated using tabs. The Primary Navigation handles the first 2 levels of site pages. The Secondary (which is not always available) handles the 3rd and 4th level of structure. The Page level navigation allows you to navigate the current page's headings quickly. The Header Navigation contains the Light/Dark Mode toggle, Search, Notifications and account login. The Breadcrumb Navigation contains the breadcrumb of the current page. If the current page has a breadcrumb, you can get to it by skipping to the content and tabbing in reverse (shift plus tab). The Footer Navigation contains links such as Privacy, Contact, about and terms. Some resources contain an Audio Player that can be activated by holding down the T key for 3 seconds, and then using K to pause and resume. While not every area of Physics Classroom is usable purely from keyboard and screen reader, we are committed to continue work on making this possible. If you have questions or need additional help, please use this link to contact us.

Minds On - Modern Atomic Model

The Modern Atomic Model Minds-On module consists of various missions (assignments) that address such topics as Modern Atomic Model. The missions and the corresponding objectives are listed below. Tap a mission's name to begin.

Activities

Mission MAM1 Schrodinger's Wave Mechanical Model

Mission MAM1 pertains to the foundational ideas associated with Schrodinger's wave mechanical model. The mission consists of 24 questions organized into 6 Question Groups.

Mission MAM2 Orbitals

Mission MAM2 pertains to atomic orbitals. Students must understand the types of atomic orbitals - their basic shape, the number per energy level, and their electron capacity. The mission consists of 34 questions organized into 9 Question Groups.

Mission MAM3 Electron Energy Levels

Mission MAM3 pertains to the ordering of orbitals by energy and the rules describing how the orbitals fill with electrons. The mission consists of 36 questions organized into 9 Question Groups.

Mission MAM4 Orbital Box Diagrams

Mission MAM4 pertains to the use of orbital box diagrams to determine and show the occupation of atomic orbitals by electrons. Students use an orbital box diagram to answer questions. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

Mission MAM5 Electron Configurations

Mission MAM5 pertains to electron configurations. Students must be able to match the electron configuration to the element. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

Mission MAM6 Electron Configurations and the PT

Mission MAM6 pertains to the location of elements in the periodic table and the patterns of electron configurations for elements in the same group. The mission consists of 40 questions organized into 10 Question Groups.

Mission MAM7 Core and Valence Shell Electrons

Mission MAM7 pertains to core and valence shell electrons. Students must determine the number of core and valence shell electrons for main group elements if given the element name, an electron configuration, the group the element is in, or an electron shell diagram.

Mission MAM8 Atomic Size as a Periodic Trend

Mission MAM8 pertains to the periodic trends associated with atomic size. Students must apply the trends to compare the relative size of triads of elements. The mission consists of 28 questions organized into 7 Question Groups.

Mission MAM9 Ionization Energy as a Periodic Trend

Mission MAM9 pertains to the periodic trends associated with ionization energy (IE). Students must apply the trends to compare the relative IE of triads of elements. The mission consists of 28 questions organized into 7 Question Groups.

Mission MAM10 Electronegativity as a Periodic Trend

Mission MAM10 pertains to the periodic trends associated with electronegativity (EN). Students must apply the trends to compare the relative EN of triads of elements. The mission consists of 28 questions organized into 7 Question Groups.
