Acids and Bases

We have 11 ready-to-use problem sets on the topic of acids and bases.

These problem sets will focus on the analysis of acidic and basic solutions. Concentrations of hydronium and hydroxide ions will be related to the pH and pOH of the solutions and to the concentrations of the dissolved acids and bases. Acid-base neutralization reactions and titration studies will also be addressed. Problems will range from the very easy plug-and-chug to the more difficult analysis of multi-step problems.

Problem Sets

Set AB1: Strong Acids and Bases, [H+], and [OH-]
8 Problems - Easy Difficulty

Relate the [H+] or [OH-] concentration to the concentration of a strong acid or a strong base.

Set AB2: pH and pOH 1
7 Problems - Easy Difficulty

Calculate the pH or pOH of an acidic or basic solution if given the hydronium or hydroxide ion concentration.

Set AB3: pH and pOH 2
6 Problems - Easy Difficulty

Calculate the hydronium or hydroxide ion concentration if given the pH or pOH value of an aqueous solution.

Set AB4: pH and pOH 3
6 Problems - Medium Difficulty

Relate the values of pH, pOH, [H3O+], and [OH-].

Set AB5: pH and pOH 4
5 Problems - Medium Difficulty

Relate the pH and pOH value of an aqueous solution to the concentration of dissolved acid or base.

Set AB6: Moles-Volume-Molarity Relationships
5 Problems - Medium Difficulty

Relate the moles of acid or base in an aqueous solution to the sample volume, the mass of solute, and the concentration value.

Set AB7: Dilution Problems
6 Problems - Medium Difficulty

Analyze a situation involving the dilution of a solution in order to relate the number of moles, the volume and the molarity of the initial and the diluted solution.

Set AB8: Acid-Base Neutralization 1
6 Problems - Medium Difficulty

Relate the quantity of acid (expressed in moles, volume and molarity, or grams) to the quantity of base involved in an acid-base neutralization reaction.

Set AB9: Acid-Base Neutralization 2
6 Problems - Hard Difficulty

Relate the quantity of acid (expressed in moles, volume and molarity, or grams) to the quantity of base involved in an acid-base neutralization reaction.

Set AB10: Titration 1
6 Problems - Medium Difficulty

Analyze acid-base titration information to relate the concentration and volume of the acidic solution to the concentration and volume of the basic solution.

Set AB11: Titration 2
6 Problems - Very Hard Difficulty

Analyze acid-base titration information to relate the concentration and volume of the acidic solution to the concentration and volume of the basic solution.
