Mission CB4 Stable Octets and Electron Sharing

Mission CB4 pertains to the sharing of electrons among atoms to form covalent bonds. Students will need to know how to use the octet rule to predict the number of bonds formed for Group 2 elements. The mission consists of 24 questions organized into 6 Question Groups.

Learning Outcomes

  • The student should be able to describe the importance of an octet valence shell electrons to the formation of covalent bonds.
  • The student should be able to use models such as orbital box diagrams, electron shell diagrams, and electron dot diagrams to explain how two atoms form covalent bonds.
